Hank is a graduate architect student who, like many, is tired of paying for overpriced student housing and spending money on school projects just for them to be tossed in the trash after he gets his grade. About the time that he became fed up he conjured up a brilliant idea to purchase a bus for $3000 and decided to make this his best project, one that he would not be throwing away.
Hank purchased a bus for $3,000 and decided to turn it into something awesome.
“This project was a way to show how building a small structure with simple detailing can be more valuable than drawing a complex project that is theoretical and poorly understood.” – Hank
He purchased the bus off Craigslist for $3,000 and saved up another $6,000 for renovations. Granted thats not a cheap project but it is cheaper than most cars as well as a lot cheaper than even the downpayment on a house.
Here you can see how he built the beds for the bus home. They definitely make the most out of the provided space. He’s optimizing the space he has to work with in his bus home.
Hanks bus home comes with everything he needs. Two beds, a kitchen, a bathroom, a ‘sun deck’ and even hardwood floors that were made from the schools old gym floor. The couches convert into the ultimate bed for those long road trips.
He cut a huge skylight into the roof that he calls the “sweet seat” leading to the roof deck.
How awesome would this be? I would love to travel the country with all the conveniences of home right behind the drivers seat.
Check out this video. You’ll see what inspired Hank to build his new tiny home out of a bus.
Hank plans on testing the bus home on a 5,000 mile journey picking up and dropping off friends along the way. He will test the features of the bus and decide what changes need to be made.
