Thousands Of Surfers Paddle Out To Sea To Honor A Lifeguard That Just Died During A Rescue

Thousands of people gathered to honor the life of Ben Carlson, a lifeguard who died on duty last week. He died just 4 days after his 32nd birthday after saving a man. Carlson had been a lifeguard for 15 years and drowned after being swept under by 15 foot waves. This was the first on duty drowning in the history of the city of Newport.
