If you’re like me, you’re struggling to lose weight AND save money. Well, luckily for us, Amazon is now selling a little gadget to help with this. This Pavlok bracelet that is selling for $200 will literally shock you if you’re spending too much money or eating too much junk food. The manufacturer said it is a “behavior training device that works by utilizing Aversive Conditioning.”
Basically, you will receive a 350-volt shock to remind you of what you’re doing. Your friends and family can also download an app to randomly give you a shock if they catch you cheating.
You friends and family can also download an app to randomly give you a shock if they catch you cheating.
According to the manufacturer: “Pavlok allows you to speak your reptile brain’s language by adding an unpleasant element (a safe and harmless ‘zap’ of electricity on your wrist) to what you have been taught to love (your nasty lingering habit), quickly conditioning your mind to associate an ‘unpleasant’ feeling with your bad habit… and stopping it all together.”
It includes wasting time online, mindless eating, eating fast food, biting your nails, smoking, and sleeping in.
According to the reviews on the product, the device works best for those who have a problem waking up in the morning.
Creators of this product compare it to having food poisoning – once you get it, you stop eating the food that gave you the poisoning, and that is called aversive conditioning. “Using the slightly uncomfortable stimulus of a shock, Pavlok helps train your brain to associate the bad behavior with the uncomfortable stimulus. And after as little as a few weeks of associating the two with consistent use, your brain begins to say:
‘Hey, wait a second. Maybe I DON’T like smoking.’
‘Hey, wait a second, maybe that donut doesn’t do much for me at all.’”
And the reviews are mixed. While many critiqued the design and quality of the product, others concluded that it is helpful when it comes to breaking minor “bad” habits.
One customer wrote: “Wrist band is a little awkward but it does allow for the contacts to be positioned closely to your skin for the best results. I’ve only used the button on the device to administer the shock.
“I can’t comment on how the hand motion function works. The app is ok and does give some information and videos on how to beat whatever habit you’re trying to break. At 100 percent on a decent charge it is more than enough of a zap to get your attention.
“I’m glad I bought it, so far I believe it is working. It’s not going to cure a lifelong issue in a few days so you have to stick to their plan and really work on it.”
