When I first saw these pictures, I thought they were the black light posters that were popular when I was a kid, but nope! It’s something so much cooler! These paintings are done by artist and photographer John Poppleton. They are part of his collection called Black Light Bodyscapes. These black light body paintings are not only incredibly detailed, but they are done on the back of female models. The black light really makes these paintings extremely vibrant!
These are two twins are actually John Poppleton’s nieces. He had the opportunity to use them as canvas. Using UV paint, he creates beautiful landscapes on the model’s back, providing an amazing transformation. If you covered the faces of the models, you would guess that these are done on canvas, not a human body.
This piece is titled “Marley’s Waterfall.” John Poppleton also goes on tour occasionally, where you can meet up with him for a cost to have yourself painted as well.
How he uses the reflection of his painting on the floor after he is done is truly incredible. He definitely has a talent that I have not seen before.
This painting was done on the same model who had “Marley’s Waterfall” done. These don’t look real. It would be interesting to see them done in real life.
This was his first official space scene for 2014.
Not only is he creating a beautiful piece of artwork on the model’s back, but he’s creating beautiful reflections using other canvases as well.
These look more like a body suit than an actual painting.
This one is titled “Emily & Kim’s Tropical Paradise”. You can see the video of it being made here.
Regarding this painting, John said, “The Northern Lights painted with fluorescent hairspray. I set some rocks and a stick in the water to make the foreground more interesting.”
This one is titled, “Desert Thunderstorm”.
On this one, it’s titled “Mary’s Mountain Lake”. The amount of time and effort that goes into each and every one of these paintings in incredible.
This model’s name is Sandra Nye Todd and she works with John regularly to help him create these memorable masterpieces.
He even does ones that are inspired by the holidays. This one is titled “Sandra’s Grande Finale”.
Check out the videos below of him creating these masterpieces. Of course they are sped up a bit, but it’ll make you appreciate the time and effort that he puts into his work.
Check out John Poppleton’s YouTube channel to see a time lapsed video of his paintings. After seeing these paintings and videos, I have a huge appreciation for the art that he is creating. I can barely draw a stick figure man, and John is creating beautiful artwork using humans as his canvas. It would be so cool to be one of his models and have this created on your back. Check out John’s Facebook Page for more information about his upcoming projects and tour schedule.
