I was a veterinary technician for over 10 years in Arizona, and believe me, heat stroke is a very serious problem for animals left out in the hot desert sun. However, one man was able to develop a genius DIY air-conditioned dog bed for his beloved 13-year-old Labrador Retriever and was kind enough to share how he did it! Hopefully everyone who sees this will be able to create one for their own furry family members to help keep cool when it’s hot outside!
First he made a frame out of wood with holes cut out for the PVC air inlet.
Attach fans to the frame and supply power (he used an old computer power supply).
Here is a picture of the completed frame with fans.
Finish off the cooling duct in a t-shape around the frame.
Tightly stretch fabric across the frame… make sure it is very tight and secure since it will be holding your dog’s weight!
To use – remove the covers from the t-fit air ducts and add frozen water bottles. When turned on the covers for the ducts will act as vents, the air will be cooled by the water bottles.
And just like that the air-conditioned dog bed is complete with one very happy new owner.
Such a smart idea! And it doesn’t seem like it would be too difficult to pull off! I will have to make my dogs air-conditioned beds of their own! However, I’m sure they would prefer the air-conditioned house instead!
