It seems we are seeing more and more people submitting DIY projects around the house lately. This man got sick of all the unused space under his stairs, so he decided to turn it into something.
He started by cutting a hole under the stairs as large as possible. He kept the hole between the studs.
The intended occupant: his dog, Jack.
He had to make sure the door was large enough for the dog to fit through comfortably.
He used pine tongue-and-groove boards for the interior and exterior.
He used the mat (with the dog on top of the mat) as a size guideline.
The dog stayed in the house during a lot of the project.
He used glue, nails, and screws to attach the pine exterior.
I think he likes it so far.
He used a nail gun to attach the shingles.
He spaced them apart perfectly so they didn’t stack too weird.
The dog just continued to watch in excitement.
He used white trim to match all of the white trim in his house.
The finished project. Now the bottom of his stairs are useful again.<
Here is the interior of the dog house. It was hard to get the dog out to take this picture.
I have to admit, I’ve always hated that unused space under my stairs and this is a perfect project to build to get rid of that unused space.
