Two Friends Turned Their Van Into A Mobile Laundromat For The Homeless

In Brisbane, Australia two 20-year-old men (Lucas Patchett and Nicholas Marchesi) have taken it upon themselves to make a huge impact on their community. These two friends had a vision to “restore respect, raise health standards, and reduce strain on resources”. They came up with an idea that is rapidly growing attention and momentum around Brisbane. They created a non-profit organization that all started with purchasing a van. This van was no ordinary van at all.

These two had a vision that was going to require getting their hands dirty and retrofitting a van to suit their needs.

They started by adding walls and a heavy-duty electrical system.

With the walls in place and the electrical system wired, Lucas assembled a heavy-duty platform.

It was time to paint. They had only one option, orange. The name of the non-profit they created was Orange Sky Laundry.

The interior of the van was complete and came out perfect.

With the interior of the van completed, it was time to install some brand new, top of the line washers and dryers.

Two washers were installed with chemical pumps to expel the waste water and supply detergents.

They added a painted orange tow hook that would tow a generator providing power for everything.

The two have one mission. They want to offer a free laundry service to all of Australia’s homeless population.

They are teaming up with local food trucks that are offering a bite to eat for free while the less fortunate have their belongings washed. Anything from blankets to shoes.

The two have officially been washing clothes on the streets of Brisbane for just over a month now and are working towards expanding into every city in Australia. To find out more about this inspirational not-for-profit organization and to donate click on their link, orangeskylaundry.com.au.
