Trying to capture the human form and human emotion through art seems like a very difficult thing to do. The human face can portray a complex array of emotions, and being able to capture them as an artist is a special gift. If you can master it however, you can truly turn your works of art into something special. German artist Mike Dargas has taken hyper-realistic portraits to a whole new level. It’s hard to believe that some of these aren’t actual photographs. I had to do a double take on some of these, because I honestly couldn’t comprehend how someone could make something so realistic with simple oil paints.
This is Mike Dargas, the man who has developed into an elite portrait painter.
Believe it or not, Mike does not have formal art training.
Mike started painting at the age of three. His mother noticed his artistic talent very early on in life, when he was doing his first sketches.
Mike dove into using oil colors after Kindergarten, this is when his work started to show some amazing promise.
He was 7 or 8 years old when his first piece of art was bought by a family friend.
Mike had his own tattoo shop for 14 years, but eventually decided he wanted to delve into the art world.
With this kind of talent, it’s almost sad that he didn’t get into this type of art sooner.
Although I’m not sure why everyone is covered and syrup and chocolate.
The amount of detail Mike is able to achieve is absolutely amazing. Something that never would have thought possible from oil paintings.
Every nuance of the human face is included in his paintings. He even includes pores on the skin.
I could never keep my hand steady enough to create something like this.
Mike doesn’t even use a picture for guidance to paint these. It all comes from memory!
This one almost looks 3-d. I thought the plastic around the face was actually there.
This is some serious artistic talent. There are few times where I have had to do a double take while looking at a picture, and this is definitely one of them. The eyes seem to contain so much life in them, that you would swear these were actual pictures of people. If I was in to collecting art, I would definitely have to think about acquiring a portrait done by this amazingly talented man. You can check out all of Mike’s work at his website.
