Man Converts Old Cargo Van Into Impressive Mobile Home

Life on the road is appealing to more and more young people. They are ditching the traditional lifestyle of buying a house, and instead converting vehicles into their homes. This idea has quite the appeal to me personally. I love traveling. It’s one of the most amazing things you can do with your life. Getting to experience new places and scenery on a daily basis is what life is all about. So when Redditor zachboth  decided he wanted to quit his job and pursue his passion for filmmaking, he knew he would need a place to live on the road. The life of a videographer is a nomadic one for sure. So he set out to build a place that could function as a house, and also a mobile studio of sorts. The results are absolutely amazing, and definitely one of the best camper vans I’ve ever seen!

His canvas was a 2003 Chevy van with over 200,000 miles. She’s definitely seen her time on the road, but with a little TLC she is about to become a dream camper van.

He took some time to make a mock-up of what he ultimately wanted the inside to look like. I love the projector for movies!

The first thing to go was the floor mat. Then it was time to get in there with a vacuum cleaner and tidy things up a bit.

The van had a few years on it, so understandably there were some rust spots. An angle grinder was able to take care of them no problem though.

He repainted the floor and it looks as good as new!

He used a spray adhesive to attach specialized insulation to the inside of the van. If you plan on living out of your vehicle, this is big thing because it can get extremely cold in there.

They did a great job of covering every flat surface possible.

They added foam and sheet insulation to the floor and ceiling.

The insulating never ends! This time they used fiberglass insulation, but put it in plastic bags to protect him.

They made a ceiling panel and a subfloor from birch.

This would definitely be nicer than walking on a cold metal floor.

No part of the van was safe from modification, not even the roof! They cut a hole out of it to add a fan and allow more sunlight and fresh air to filter in.

He wanted to add some aesthetic appeal to the inside of the van, so he thought he would add some wood to the inside.

He received these plaster lath boards from a church for free. He sanded and stained them, and then nailed them to the ceiling.

He covered the walls with boards that had to be individually measured and cut. This took a bit of time.

Laminated flooring was added to give it the feel of an actual home.

Next was the installation of the bed. It will offer plenty of storage space to make up the room it uses.

This is a rough layout of what the kitchen will look like. It wouldn’t be a real home without some sort of cooking space.

He even added a Hummer roof rack!

The rack had a very specific purpose for being installed. It will be used to hold solar panels to the roof.

The end result of this build is seriously impressive.

Everything in the van has a dual purpose or more.

He has a fully custom bed that was actually made from an Ikea futon that had been cut down.

I really love what they did with the windows. Allowing the fresh air to roll through this would definitely cut down on the need to use the AC.

Drop the kitchen cabinet down and you have a great little work area. The stool serves as a chair, ottoman and even a trash can!

He even has a detachable table to eat at.

They even painted the windows with chalk board paint so he could write and draw on them!

I absolutely love this van! If I had to pick any camper van I’ve ever seen, this would definitely have to be it. Everything in here seems to flow seamlessly into everything else. The wood really ties everything together in my opinion. I love how he was able to hide the entire kitchen, while still making it a usable space for other activities. If you’re going to live out of your van, you might as well make it as comfortable as possible, and this thing was definitely built with comfort in mind.
