Abandoned Oil Rig In Malaysia Transformed Into Hotel For Divers

Ever wanted to take a unique trip that not many other people have had the experience of doing? Well this old oil rig may be your ideal destination then. What was once a dirty oil rig in the middle of the ocean has since been transformed into a beautiful hotel. With some spectacular views and open ocean breezes, if you like being near the water then this place is definitely for you. The hotel caters to avid divers and pretty much offers diving excursions nonstop. The oil rig is located next to Mabul Island in the Coral Triangle in Sabah, Borneo. The diving at Seaventures is considered to be technical diving, so if you’re a beginner it probably isn’t for you. They also offer cave diving classes at a place called Turtle Tomb. There are 28 different rooms available on the rig and two beautiful suites. If you are a traveler on a budget, they even have quad bed cabins! The diving around the hotel is second to none, and the food is served buffet style up on an open deck overlooking the ocean. I seriously need to visit this oil rig hotel soon!

The open deck of the oil rig provides a great place for staging all the dive equipment. It also provides breathtaking views of the ocean surrounding you.

Imagine diving all day and being able to relax on an open deck like this and taking in the ocean sunset. Sounds pretty awesome to me.

All the rooms at the hotel are climate controlled and have all the amenities you would want in a regular hotel. The suites are especially nice.

A lot of travelers are on a limited budget, but if diving is your thing you could always grab some buddies and stay in this 4 person bunk style cabin.

This shot was taken in a place called Turtle Tomb. I think it’s pretty self-explanatory from this picture why it’s called that.

What an absolutely surreal experience something like this would have to be. It’s amazing that we as humans have the opportunity to appreciate nature in this fashion.

Cave diving is one of the best things to do if you are a diver from what I’m told. This picture does nothing to change that. Amazing!

Underneath the oil rig lie plenty of different wrecks and coral reefs to dive down too.

Absolutely beautiful!

A unique amenity that the hotel boasts is its elevator that drops divers directly into the ocean. No more hauling their gear on and off boats. The ocean is literally at your fingertips 24/7.

H/T

This place seems like a divers paradise. You have the ocean literally feet from you at all times and it seems like you can go diving pretty much whenever you want. Combine that with awesome food and a bar for a good time at night, this sounds like one heck of a vacation destination. I’m thinking diving lessons may be in my near future if these are the types of places you can go.
