This artist was on a recent residency in Queenstown, Tasmania when she began collecting unique rocks from the area. She decided to start painting eyes on them and returning them to the landscape to be found or lost forever. Queenstown has a very long mining history and there are a lot of very unusual rocks everywhere. This is what sparked the rock collection which eventually turned into a treasure hunt/art project dedicated to the community.
Each rock is uniquely painted featuring a detailed eye.
They’re beautiful and borderline creepy making them so uniquely appealing!
There is no discrimination to the size of rock. She paints them on every rock she finds unique and special.
I love that she leaves them where she found them for the community to enjoy!
The painted rocks have taken on a life of their own and the community absolutely adores them.
I’m amazed at the attention to detail including the sparkles that we all have in our eyes.
I wonder how many rocks are left out there still waiting to be discovered. Just watching the world pass by.
Some rocks will be left forever to sit and watch the world grow older.
Some rocks are going to find a new home with random people that will have their own story.
These rocks have a new life and purpose. As ancient and simple as they are, they now have a different outlook on life.
The best part about these rocks is that they’re unique and made to be enjoyed! Of course all art is made to be enjoyed but these are more interactive which is what makes them so special. I think that the artist is going to have to keep placing the painted rocks around to keep the hunt alive in her community. That’s what makes these awesome!
