Going to garage sales was always a treat when I was younger. When you don’t have any money as a kid, being able to buy a toy for a nickel was a pretty big deal. We’ve all probably had that fantasy of perusing a yard sale and finding some sort of lost treasure. Some sort of item that has been lost through time and changed hands quite a bit. Well that wild dream came true for this family from New York. They were out yard sale shopping, and their lives completely changed!
A family in New York was having a nice day of browsing through yard sales, when they started to rummage through the kitchen wear section.
They found this bowl and fell in love with it. They ended up paying $3 for it. They displayed it on their mantle for years.
At one point, the family became curious about the origins of the bowl so they decided to get it appraised.
The bowl is actually over 1,000 years old! It was made during China’s Song Dynasty. The ceramic work was a commonly used one called “Dingware. The owners decided to sell the bowl at Sotheby’s, and it sold for $2,225,000!!!!!!
These people hit the yard sale lottery! This is the first time I have ever heard of something being found at a yard sale being worth anything close to this amount of money. These people will be set for the rest of their lives, all from a $3 investment. I wonder if they ended up telling the people they bought it from what they had missed out on. I would have loved to see the looks on their faces!
